Sun, June 30, 2019 thru Fri, July 5, 2019 events:Outreach Intergenerational Summer Mission Excursion Monte Vista Christian Church (and hopefully individuals from other Albuquerque churches) will be going on a service-learning journey this summer. From June 30—July 5, we're going to Fort Worth to see what is being done to extend the hand of God's mercy to those who came to this country seeking help and healing, those who came offering their whole selves to be part of this life we take for granted. But we're not just going to share God's mercy; we're going to learn about how we can promote God's justice, changing a system that brought such desperation into being. We're going to minister with folks who had little choice, and we're going to learn from Ridglea Christian Church and other Fort Worth organizations who have heard the call to pour out the love we have first received from outside ourselves, from Immanuel, God with us. The opportunity is open to folks of all ages; the leaders in Fort Worth will tailor our excursions to the abilities and safety of those who come along on this journey to explore our faith. We'll learn ways that Fort Worth is making love manifest, and we'll discern how we can adapt their tools to be useful in our work here in Albuquerque. But you have to be there to see it! We need you because your unique observations might be missed by anyone else, and our learning will be less whole without your contribution. Please take a gander at your summer schedule and talk to me when you know you are coming or if you have questions. The cost is $200 per person plus food and the road trip costs. That can be a big chunk for some of us; if you've got the time but not the money, please talk to me privately. I will keep our conversation in confidence, and we'll make sure that finances are not a barrier to your participation. We want as many Monte Vistans to attend as possible, and we want a wide diversity of folks so we have eyes and ears that will learn differently, bringing back as much of the experience as possible.
